INDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR NEURODIVERSE CHILDREN IN THE BALTIMORE AREA

As a parent, you may have a child who has struggled with anxiety, ADHD, or depression, but maybe you are out of resources and want to take the next step to help your child.

Maybe your child typically engages in restrictive activities, refuses to go to school or other outings, and it’s having a serious impact on your family.

They may be receiving frequent referrals to the school support staff and/or administrators for various behaviors. You want your child to gain some confidence, coping strategies, have a place to talk to a neutral yet supportive party, and gain some strategies for yourself as a parent.

We know that your child wants to feel heard, seen and connected to their therapist.

Many of our children have been to “therapy” before and had a negative experience. When they walk into our suite, they typically let some walls down. We usually start with a tour of the different areas and spaces in our offices/suites, which include areas with sensory items, the crash pad area, the art area, and the Nintendo Switch area, to name a few. This motivates them to share what they are interested in even when there is some initial resistance.

After working with us, children usually have established a connection and confidence that, even if they are stepping down in frequency or graduation, they trust that there is a place and people who they can always call to come back to, should they need to.

Our Approach

When working with children, our approach always involve some level of collaboration with parents.

Your clinician will discuss this with you at intake and modify as appropriate during treatment. For example, they may suggest doing a parent and child check in during the start of each session, then meet 1:1 with the child.

There may be times when the clinician requests to have “x” amount of sessions with the child and then suggests a parent session to review what is working, get feedback and check in with the family.
